Here’s the creation process for the oil painting “Lemon Basil”. 12x12 oil on wood panel. Purchased by the Butler Family. I’ve known the Butlers since I was a teenager growing up in Alpine. I was good friends with their daughter Emily, but really just grew to love the entire family. They have always been so kind and supportive over the years. This still life was so much fun to paint. My favorite part to paint were the lemons as well as the subtle design elements on the cloth. The basil plant took a little tweaking. My leaves didn’t quite look right at first but in the end I was glad to get those curved textured leaves just right. I think lemons and basil are paired so nicely together. The bright, zesty tartness of lemon enhances the fresh, slightly sweet and peppery flavor of basil. What a beautiful and delicious combination in the kitchen. Thank you for your interest in this painting and I hope you enjoy watching how it all came together. - Jordan
